  sometimes when you are in the borg, you miss the obvious.

  i recall a sheperding call around sept. 2001. i was a brand-new m.s.

  and went with an older elder.

  This kind of 'Christian love' by JW is what started me waking up .

  There was a newly interested person attending our hall that needed aid ,and when I asked the Elders if the congregation could help ,they told me that was not the role of the congregation . Our only concern should be preaching ,JWs are not a social services organization .

  They proceeded to tell the person in need that because they were a newly interested one the others would view them as 'an icey wind' on their backs until they proved themselves to be a lover of Jehovah . I was SHOCKED and sickened by this revelation . A few days later this person was homeless ,and when I told an Elders wife , 'I guess I will have to turn to the Churches in town to help her ' ,... she jumped down her husbands throat and ended up getting some help after all. Some of those Elders wives can be real assets .

  When I came to realize they couldn't even get being a good samaritian right, I knew it was all over ....

  What is your daily commute, and how long does it take you

  mine is 25 miles each way.

  it can take anywhere from a half hour to an hour and a half each way depending on traffic.

  there is no way way to get here by public transportation.. sigh~ .

  My drive is about 3 minutes to work ,and then for work I drive approx.30 in the morning and 30 miles in the afternoon driving school bus .In the in between time I work at a shop downtown part time ,another 3 minute drive . I too live in a small town population 6,000. My husband drives into the nearest bigger town for work 22 miles away .

  since leaving the wts i've struggled mightily to make friends and adjust socially.

  i would really like to find some people that i know and reconnect if any happen to be on here.

  i was wondering do you ever miss certain jw's?

  i mean not all but just some, becuase even though we may rant and rave against jw's at times.

  we have to remeber that for those that were born in the jw's theywere like family.which is why it is so hard at for me to let go completely.. although i have been out for about 5 yrs and it feels good.

  Sure I miss certain ones ,but I have come to realize their friendship was not based on anything substantial otherwise they would still be my friend no matter what .

  I live in a small town and I see some of our former JW 'friends' around town at the grocery store ect . I always greet them with a smile ,a wave , and a hello . Some respond back with a mumbled hello then look down at the floor and walk on by ,I truly feel sorry for them . Others look through me as if I do not exist ,I do not feel sorry for those types .

  i thought that we could just fade away peacefully, but i guess my mother told my sister that we no longer wanted to be jehovah's witnesses so now all hell is breaking loose.. .

  it's a relief tho.

  i feel really sad and upset also, because my mom lives with my sister and now has been forbidden from contacting me or vice versa.

  Your Mother has rights ! Authorities could explain to her and your sister that just because she is elderly does not make her a prisoner of your sisters.

  How did you feel making your first post here?

  i was scared sh*tless.

  i stayed home from work for four days scared to go out of my house thinking god would strike me down by lightening if was wrong with my thoughts... i couldn't sleep at all.... but i had to take that first step... as scary as it was....

  When I first posted here seven yrs ago I was still active, my whole family was in ,and we had a JW living with us . I would scan this forum at night when everyone was asleep or out of the house .Very scared so worried I would be found out to be unfaithful.

  The reason I finally gained the boldness to come on this website was because of a Doctor Phil show I saw on cults . Things brought our in that show made me realize I had every right to seek answers to the questions I had about my religion . His show had dealt with two girls ,'The Two Fawns ',that had escaped a cult and I found their experience so close to how I felt ...trapped ,afraid to leave because of shunning policy ,the fear of THE END ,guilt thinking ect..

  I was still nervous that coming on here was some sort of trick and that somehow I would be found out or that thhe posters on here really were evil agents of Satan .

  My fears did not subside until I finally read Ray Franz books then I had clarity that this really is just another manmade religion period .

  It all seems so silly now . I lived in fear always as a Jehovahs Witness ,all my life . That anxiety nearly ruined my life . That part of my life thankfully has evaporated away ,I enjoy the freedom of thinking for myself now.

  Above is my very first post on this discussion forum . I was so afraid and timid back then ,seven years ago . But everyone here made me feel welcome and safe . I was understood and given much needed encouragement .

  With the new year I felt the need to send a sincere Thank you to all that have been such a help and support when I faded seven yrs ago from the JWs . Especially to Simon that started and continues to run this discussion board ,a huge THANK YOU !

  Over the years many different people have come and gone and shared so much .

  New ones join ,old ones move on ,but what continues is understanding ,fellow feeling and support .

  Reach out if you are in need of some kind of support do not let fear control your life anymore . It gets better, normalcy(whatever that is :) ,and Joy in life can be achieved .

  What a good video ! This man is open ,honest and what he says is truly heartfelt . That took courage to post and I hope others will find strength from watching what he has to say .

  To those of you that question his statements about not finishing High School and young marriages . You have to realize your experience as a Witness differs from those of us raised in the 60's and 70's ! I always say my kids and husband have NO idea what it was like being a Witness when I was a young child . Finishing High School just was not that important in the early 70's when so many were sure the end was so close (1975) .It may not have been exactly promoted from the stage to do so ,however countless times experiences were given of ones putting spiritual goals first over education ,and people Never encouraged more education . Even now in the rural area I live in parents are pulling kids out of High School (because of the bad enviroment ) and so -called home schooling them . Home schooling however in my state is not regulated and many of these teens are instead working for their parents or pioneering instead of schooling ! As far as young marriages goes ,I was married in 1979 the day after I graduated High School ...it was not discouraged ,because most the adults knew the only relief for horny teenagers was to allow them to marry . In our circuit most girls were 17-18 when they wed . They are still continuing that practice today . It was only when I started working outside the home, and associating with non witnesses did I realize how terrible others thought young marriage really was .
